Alana Bond

Alana Bond is an entrepreneur and strategist who believes that a mix of responsible established and new businesses, and business solutions focused specifically on addressing social and environmental issues in society is the only approach that will create long term sustainability for humanity and thriving economies across the globe, that will bring the management of our natural resources into equilibrium and can resolve the key root causes of our societal challenges, including poverty and inequality.

Alana was previously a founding team member and eventually Managing Director of a strategic BEE consultancy which was started in 2006 by a boutique corporate finance house. At the beginning of 2012, she bought the business and with her business partner Lana Lovasic, started Simanye, incorporating aspects of the original BEE consulting business.

Alana has over 15 years of business strategy consulting experience. Her core areas of expertise are Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment, Social Enterprise and the global and local ecosystems, funding start ups focused on impact, innovative finance associated with start ups and social enterprise, grassroots economic development, strategy development, business models, identifying opportunities and the monetisation of ideas. She is a quintessential analyst with a natural talent for structuring solutions and an uncommon ability to see the big picture as clearly as she sees details, she believes there is always a solution to every problem.

She is a hands-on manager, preferring to consult directly to clients and be involved in the core strategy development and deliverables for many of Simanye’s projects and initiatives, utilising her knowledge and expertise to drive projects to their successful delivery.

She has also been directly involved in starting up several businesses and social enterprises, serves on the boards of a number of foundations and trusts, is quoted in the press regarding transformation and sustainable development-related topics and has been invited to speak at several conferences as well as at Parliament on topics relating to transformation and sustainable development. In 2011, Alana was a winner in the Leaders of Tomorrow category of the CEO Magazine’s South Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government awards.

Alana has a Bachelor of Business Science degree completed with Honours in Finance from the University of Cape Town, where she was on the Deans’ Merit List and was selected for the Golden Key Society. Prior to her work in B-BBEE and economic development, Alana lived and worked in London before spending several years at the Johannesburg office of the international management consulting company, Accenture, where she was involved in several large strategy and IT implementation projects.
